Global manufacturer Sandvik undertakes a software selection project meant to optimize its supply chain practices, balance global inventory, and free up working capital.
Seeking to improve its supply chain management capabilities, manufacturer and engineering group Sandvik has selected Logility, a provider of SCM software, to help the company improve its supply chain visibility and upgrade its demand and inventory skills, all with an eye toward bolstering customer satisfaction.
The Swedish manufacturer will implement the supply chain technology in its Mining and Construction unit, one of three at the company, Logility said in a statement this week. The division’s sprawling operations—Sandvik Mining and Construction covers 130 countries and is home to more than 15,000 employees—manufacture and service heavy equipment that allows miners and construction companies to excavate and move rocks and other material.
The division had expanded recently by way of acquisitions, and consequently had outgrown its supply chain software. Determined to optimize a demand chain that includes a “large network of manufacturing facilities and worldwide distribution,” according to the statement, Sandvik undertook a software selection project that landed on Logility’s Voyager Solutions. Officials of the division said the improvement effort related directly the service Sandvik delivers to its customers once they’ve purchased Sandvik equipment.
“Due to many recent acquisitions, and our growing business volume and footprint, it is necessary to transform our replenishment and distribution to increase service levels and minimize working capital, and it is critical we have a supply chain that will enable our future growth while keeping our costs low,” said Hans Blomgren, vice president of supply chain operations support at Sandvik Mining and Construction.

The Logility Voyager software will help balance inventory across Sandvik’s manufacturing and distribution facilities, the vendor said. A major goal of the project, according to Sandvik, is to use inventory more intelligently, freeing up working capital that the company can put to better use elsewhere in the business.
