The vendor’s Catalyst xM version 2.5 includes the Open Data Protocol, providing a way for the event-driven manufacturing operations management software to access data stored in information silos including relational databases, content management systems, and even Websites.

Savigent Software Inc. , a maker of manufacturing intelligence and workflow automation programs, has released a new version of its flagship product that uses a Web protocol to access information stored in data silos and deliver it to Web-based clients and mobile devices.

Catalyst xM version 2.5 incorporates the Open Data Protocol (OData) as a way for its event-driven manufacturing operations management software to support distributed data sources, the company said. OData builds on Web technologies such as HTTP, Atom Publishing Protocol (AtomPub), and JSON to expose data stored in a variety of places, including relational databases, file systems, content management systems (CMS), and Websites. According to the Odata.org Website, by incorporating Web principles, the protocol enables data integration and interoperability across a broad range of clients, servers, services, and tools.

Now that it supports OData, Catalyst xM is said to access workflow execution history from a variety of off-the-shelf data mining and business intelligence tools. OData can also expose manufacturing intelligence capabilities from Catalyst xM to browser-based and mobile clients. In addition, the Catalyst xM Server Manager now provides a Data Source Builder that allows users to configure virtual tables created dynamically to provide data access via the Open Data Protocol, the company said.

“The addition of OData Services dramatically simplifies data mining within Catalyst xM and puts a wealth of manufacturing intelligence at the fingertips of users through easily accessible tools like Microsoft Excel,” said Jay Mellen, Savigent’s executive vice president of business development, in a statement.

According to Savigent, version 2.5 also extends the application into enterprise-wide workflow automation systems that include data centers and private clouds. The new release is available now.
