RFID provider Intelleflex rolls out two new RFID readers that track the temperature of goods moving through the supply chain.

RFID technology provider Intelleflex today introduced two new RFID readers said to provide condition monitoring for goods moving through the cold chain.

The HMR-9090 Handheld Reader and FMR-6000 Fixed Reader work in conjunction with Intelleflex tags, the company said, to deliver supply chain management and visibility to manufacturers who must maintain specific temperature conditions for their products throughout the journey. Intelleflex singled out food and beverage manufacturers and makers of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals as target markets for the new technology.

Both RFID readers are based on the company’s EPCglobal C1G2 XC3 RFID technology. The readers provide wireless monitoring of products within packages and containers, in environments including metals and liquids, Intelleflex said. The HMR-9090 and FMR-6000 can read RFID tags across 100 meters of free space.

For manufacturers and producers that must provide an audit trail showing the state of their products through the supply chain, the Intelleflex RFID tags can store temperature logs via on-board memory, the company said. That data can then be transferred to an ERP system or another application via the RFID readers. Intelleflex works with application providers and others to create such integrations.

The company has pilot-tested the new RFID readers with the Hawaii Department of Agriculture and with Clifford Produce Sales. Pricing for the Intelleflex Starter Kit begins at $2,495.
